Ministry, JEA launch National Energy Conservation Campaign

Amman, April 12 (Petra) –Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) on Sunday launched the National Energy Conservation Campaign.

The initiative was kicked off in the presence of Energy Minister Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh and JEA Head Abdullah Assem Ghosheh.

According to a ministry statement, Kharabsheh called for "largely" integrating a culture of conservation, as the first step to achieve "comprehensive" energy security under this approach.

Kharabsheh said the results of auditing and conservation projects implemented by the ministry's Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund showed that conservation efforts in some factories reached up to 20%, while in some hotels hit up to 50%.

He expressed his hope that conservation would be implemented by all sectors, adding that progress in conservation-related efforts remains "modest across various sectors." In this context, he noted Jordan's energy intensity index exceeds the global average by up to 25%.

Kharabsheh noted conservation aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision in supporting the national economy and increasing productivity and creating job opportunities.

As for future steps, he urged all concerned bodies to intensify efforts to establish a culture of energy efficiency in conjunction with conducting legislative reviews.
